Alex was born and raised in Connecticut and graduated from Connecticut College having studied psychology and art. Shortly after beginning her professional art career, Alex moved to Vermont in 1992. She has gained success and acclaim throughout New England with her collage, abstract oil, and encaustic work. She starts most of her paintings with magazine cut-outs, centering around a single theme, that she glues to wood panels or paper. By adding colored bees wax (encaustic) or oil paints, she is able to create an ethereal, dream-like feeling for the viewer. As she works the paint or wax over the collage, she blends them together, creating an atmosphere of a foggy memory or meditation. When they are finished, shapes loose their distinctiveness and viewers are drawn into them, creating a continuation between Alex’s viewpoint and the rest of the world. |
