Artist Bio:

Steven is a Vermont artist that finds new and varied ways to create art with digital media.  Originally trained as a painter, his work ranged from figurative to completely abstract until he made the switch to computer generated art in the early 1990's.  Artistically he was trained at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts, Brest, France, and Parsons School of Design, New York, New York.  In his current work he creates what can be called "Image Collages," because he combines and alters photography, painting, text, graphic elements, and texture (e.g., he has at times used the scratches on a cookie sheet) to create a unified, unique, and sophisticated image.

Steven is also a graduate of the University of Vermont where he earned degrees in History and Art History.  He has worked for 20 years as a graphic designer for a software company which has given him the confidence and background to develop his digital art.  His work is both very personal and open-ended enough to allow personal interpretation on the part of the viewer.   An important element in the work is the text embedded within the image. The interaction of the words and images creates new and unexpected meaning, often raising philosophical, social, or psychological issues.  One of the most noticeable skills that he demonstrates in his work is the ability to use high technology to create images that do not show off the capabilities of the computer, rather he creates images that are unified and interesting without spurring the viewer to think about the computer that was used to create them. Steven shows great skill in finding a way to use something completely modern to create something that is timeless.
